Meet Abebe, a 55-year-old father of 11 children and a coffee farmer with 20 years of experience. In the scenic Sidama region, specifically in Boreta Weyo Kebele of Bona Zuriya Woreda, Abebe owns 3.02 hectares of land renowned for its ideal climate conditions—high altitudes ranging from 1950 to 2030 meters, ample rainfall, optimal temperature, and rich soil—for cultivating green coffee beans.
With his passion for coffee and dedication to his craft, Abebe has established himself as a respected figure in the local farming community, producing exceptional coffee beans that delight coffee enthusiasts worldwide.
His processing method
Once the coffee cherries are harvested from the coffee trees, they are carefully laid out in thin layers to undergo the drying process under the sun.
Abebe employs African Raised Beds, which promote the circulation of air around the cherries, ensuring an even drying process. Regularly turning the cherries is essential to prevent the growth of mold, fermentation, or decay.
Once the cherries have completed the thorough drying process, they are transported to mills where the hulling takes place. This step involves separating the seeds from the remaining dried fruit.
Once the cherries have achieved optimal dryness, the skin and dried fruit pulp are removed, leaving behind the green coffee beans, which are then stored for future use.
